|closed|Front End Web Developer

Job Description

We are looking for a talented front end web developer to join our web development team. The role involves building new sites and helping to maintain existing ones. This is an all-rounder role, so with multi-platform technical knowledge and experience, you’ll be proficient working on Linux-based systems, as well as creating and supporting front-end sites, primarily in WordPress, but among other CMS.

Whilst you’ll spend most of your time working on our clients’ current websites you will also be involved in planning and discovery for new projects, liaising with other departments, talking to clients, and analysing data metrics.

What you’ll be doing (day-to-day):

  • Working on client website projects to:

    • develop front-end website architecture & user-interactions on web pages

    • develop sites from in-house designs and modify templates where required

    • launch sites following best practice to maintain SEO rankings and site availability

    • Trouble-shoot performance issues and audits

  • Ensuring cross-platform optimisation for all devices and viewports, and responsiveness of applications

  • Vital role in the development and maintenance of retained client websites as well as working on new website builds

  • Collaborate closely with other members of the development team as well as other departments including digital and design to develop high quality websites

  • Conducting site audits, updates & recommendations for website improvements including occasionally liaising with clients

  • Fault resolution & site maintenance of hosted websites

  • Actively participating in creative & planning meetings to ensure websites are built with best practice guidelines in mind

  • You will ensure the accessibility and performance of website migrations, mitigating any risks throughout the launch process

  • Estimating project timescales for new projects

  • Actively reporting on project progress, with an awareness of the commercial implications of project delays or changes

  • Supporting colleagues and internal teams to better understand technical issues and considerations

  • Maintaining industry knowledge and staying up to date with website trends & technology improvements

The skills, capabilities & person requirements for this role:

  • Proficient in fundamental front-end languages such as HTML, CSS, SCSS, and JavaScript

  • Proficiency in content management systems, particularly WordPress

  • Prior knowledge of working with WordPress Elementor is desirable

  • Linux based server experience preferable

  • Sound knowledge of DNS. Code deployment including Envoyer & Forge an advantage

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • An excellent problem-solver; proven debugging and troubleshooting skills

  • Some experience of database technology such as MySQL preferable but not essential

  • You seek best practices and share your knowledge with others. You love working in teams, collaborating with other departments, and can work well independently

  • Attention to detail and methodical working approach

  • Well presented with a friendly, confident, and professional manner

  • Willing and able to train colleagues and share technical knowledge/news/updates and advances

Terms & Benefits

  • Salary £37,000 – £40,000 per annum, depending on experience

  • Mon – Fri, between 9am – 5.30pm (37.5 hours per week – some flexibility)

  • Hybrid working, 3 days office-based per week

  • Billingshurst office location, with free parking

  • 25 days annual leave + Bank Holidays (increasing with length of service) & your birthday off
